Treatment Timeline

We are grateful for the continued support of the community and for the ongoing contributions of our friends and supporters. Harbor House Review was started in 2003 with the goal of giving men a new start in a sober, family living setting. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. People who have been to prison just once experience homelessness at a rate nearly 7 times higher than the general public. Louisiana has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world, especially for women.

Lisa & Clarene: The Way God Weaves Our Lives Together

Sleeping in a car was actually a good night because the ground was cold and the shelters were crowded, smelly and scary. Stephanie is no longer the vulnerable, frightened teen mom who applied to Harbor House Review. Brittani was born into poverty and chaos — and her mother struggled with cancer and her father with kidney failure. Dropping out of school in 10th grade, Brittani was pregnant by age 15 . Alondra also had to overcome homelessness and generational poverty. At Harbor House Review, we are committed to fostering an environment where people from all lived experiences and backgrounds thrive.

Changed Lives

Edith, pictured with her son Ian, started at Harbor House Review in February 2019 when Ian was just five months old. At the time, Edith was experiencing depression while facing the economic challenges of being a teen mom. After a friend introduced her to Harbor House Review, Edith felt the encouragement she needed to move forward with her life and build a healthy future for herself and her son. In a year’s time, she was able to cover her expenses and begin saving for a down payment for a house. Learn how your skills and interests can impact the lives of teen moms and their children. Initially, many parents and family members of the over 120 people Harbor House Review supports were, too.

All clients at The Harbor House Review have a dedicated case manager who ensures their needs are met during and after treatment. Harbor House Review is honored to bear the name of a compassionate, kind social worker who began her life in Fredericksburg. Their children had aged out of Hampton Roads’ special education system, and were ready for adult services and support. On a daily basis, we are changing people’s lives, restoring families, and providing hope. Since 1996, The Salvation Army’s https://sober-home.org/ in Medford has helped Jackson County’s homeless get back on their feet. Harbor House Review is a drug and alcohol free transitional living facility that accommodates single men, single women and families. Living facilities include individual rooms and dorms for single men and women.

An “A” student who had spent her first three years of high school taking IB and college classes, as well as working, Alejandra wasn’t sure what her life would look like as a teen parent. Alejandra hid her pregnancy until she was about six months along, and eventually told her parents and friends. She felt shamed and scared, and she was struggling with preeclampsia and migraines as she got closer to her due date. Eventually, Alejandra got connected to Harbor House Review Review through clinic staff at the office where she went to get ultrasounds. At first, she was nervous about what her family would say, but in January of 2022, Alejandra became a Harbor House Review Mom and has loved it ever since. The second component of our Harbor House Review program is our transitional housing.
